Project AWARE - Our Blue World

November 2010 News for AWARE Divers and Advocates

Take Action for Sharks
Avocates and EU Citizens wrote to their MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) to press for a stronger European shark finning ban.  European Shark Week, 9- 17 October, is now behind us but you can still take action. Write a letter this month. Vulnerable shark species depend on it. (More)

International Cleanup Day Success
AWARE divers around the world hauled up tones of rubbish from more than 800 dive sites during 25 September’s International Cleanup Day. Some also got creative combining No Plastic Bottle campaigns in Malaysia, fundraising events in Egypt and missions to set free entangled marine wildlife in Thailand. Share in the success and read inspiring stories from this year's events. (More)

Your Shark Signatures at Work
We’re more than 40,000 signatures strong in the Help Give Sharks a Fighting Chance petition. Just days ago we’ve delivered these signatures in a first round of meetings with UK CITES delegates. Next, we’ll take them to the US, Australia and Germany. Help continue the surge of support for sharks, just in the nick of time. (More)

Photo Contest Winners
Pretty underwater pictures aren’t the point of this contest. The annual Ocean in Focus photo competition is about painting a picture of serious ocean threats and the need for protection. Check out the honored contest winning shots. (More)

Powering Up for Change
While Project AWARE and teams of dive volunteers are pushing back on serious marine debris, shark and coral reef threats, we’re also preparing for big change. The longstanding 21-year organization is planning a re-launch in 2011, powered by even stronger global strategies and action plans. We need your support. Invest in real, long-term change for the future of our ocean planet. (Donate Now)

Take action for sharks today: donate, write a letter or sign the petition.
