MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL DIVE EXPO 2007 (MIDE2007)
This year, MIDE was held at PWTC from 8th – 11th July, 2007. It was aimed to internationally promote Malaysia and the surrounding region as a premium diving destination. Not only that, the organizers also had hoped to create awareness and appreciation for the natural environment of the sea and marine life, thus creating a natural demand and supply of diving-friendly activities.
Held throughout the 3 days, the event has succeeded to place itself as a platform for the general public to learn more about scuba diving through the correct channel. MIDE 2007 has managed to bring together all relevant players related to the scuba diving industry under one roof thus giving full excess to the public to gather information, sign up for diving trips and last but not least purchase diving gear at promotional prices.
This year saw the participation of diving operators from Australia, Bali, Vietnam, Thailand, Mulu and of course, Malaysia. Visitors were also able to purchase great buys from Scubapro, Pinnacle, Mares, Akoona and many more. Not only that, this year, visitors could also get close and personal with the registered members of PADI, NAUI Worldwide, SCUBA School International (SSI) and International Technical Diving Agency (ITDA) UK Ltd, that conducts training up to commercial diver-level, so that they could decide which diving training suits them best.
A nice surprise was the participation of Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) who was there to promote underwater conservation by placing artificial corals strategically within our waters. This leads to promoting a healthy growth of fishes as well as other marine lives thus preserving their existence for our next generation to discover.
This year’s ambassador, Mr. Richard Ng, a famous radio deejay from Mix.Fm who is also a PADI instructor, took time to meet up with all the exhibitors as well as mingling around with the visitors to promote safe diving. Richard is a well known figure and coupled with his warm personality, he managed to liven up the event with his constant jokes and laughter.
MIDE 2007 also lined up interesting activities throughout the 3 days such as dive seminars on training development, underwater photography competition, children underwater coloring contest as well as arranging for a miniature scuba pool to be erected for the purpose of swimming & diving promotion as well equipment testing.
We hope to see everyone back again for MIDE 2008. This year’s event was a great success and we hope to meet up with old friends as well as new ones next year.
